초록
본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 제조업에 속한 12월 결산법인들의 현금보유량증가가 기업의 가치에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 외환위기 전후 각 5년동안 315개 기업을 대상으로 패널회귀모형을 이용하여 실증분석하였다. 실증분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.첫째, 우리나라 기업의 현금보유량증가의 정보효과를 분석하기 위한 모형은 개별효과보다는 시간효과를 동시에 고려한 모형의 설명력이 높게 나타났다. 그리고 현금보유량증가가 기업에 긍정적인 정보효과를 주는 것으로 나타났다.둘째, 현금보유량과 레버리지는 현금증가변수와 교호작용의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 모형에 따라 다소 차이는 있지만 개별효과의 경우에는 레버리지와 현금증가변수간에 정의 유의성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 외부차입증가로 인하여 감시비용의 외부이전에 따른 긍정적인 기업가치를 초래한 것으로 보인다. 하지만 시간효과를 동시에 고려할 경우에는 현금보유량과 현금의 증가분간의 교호효과는 기업가치에 부정적인 것으로 나타났다.마지막으로 외환위기 이전에는 현금의 증가가 기업의 가치에 부정적인 영향을 미치지 못했지만 외환위기 이후에는 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 변수간의 교호효과가 외환위기 이전에는 나타났지만 외환위기 이후에는 유의적인 효과를 발견할 수 없었다.
Abstract
This study is to examine the information effect of corporate cash holdings of the Korea firms before and after the Korea foreign excange crisis. The sample includes the manufacturing firms that the official accounting period ends in every December with the sample period of 1991 through 2003. We estimate the information effect using the panel regression models that include various effects：individual effect, time effect, and fixed effect.The results can be summarized as follows. First, the panel regression model that include both individual and time effect is more powerful than any other model to explain the inforamtion effect of corporate cash holdings. And an increase in cash holding led to the positve information effect to the company over the whole sample period. Second, the increaded cash holding variable had negative interaction effect with cash holdigngs but positive interaction effect with leverage, respectively. Finally, an increase in cash holding had the positive impact on the valuation of the firm before the crisis, but the negative impact after the crisis.
