본 연구는 소유지배구조가 기업의 혁신활동에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이므로 주요 연구가설은 외부주요주주지분율, 경영자지분율 그리고 외국인지분율이 기업의 혁신활동에 미치는 영향을 미치는가를 실증 분석하였다. 본 연구는 종속변수인 R&D 혁신활동의 측정치로 투입측면의 측정치인 R&D집중도, 산출측면의 측정치인 특허출원건수를 사용하여 설명변수인 소유지배구조의 영향을 분석하였다. 모형추정방법으로 최소자승법(OLS)과 패널회귀분석의 고정효과모형을 사용하여 결과를 비교하였다. 분석결과, 모형의 추정방법에 따라 결과가 달라짐을 발견하였다. 즉, OLS 추정을 실시한 경우, 경영자지분율과 외국인지분율은 각각 기업의 혁신활동에 부(-)와 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 관찰 불가능한 기업의 이질성을 통제하는 패널회귀분석의 고정효과모형을 사용한 경우 이 효과는 사라졌다. 이러한 추정결과는 종속변수의 조작적 정의에 따라 변화하지 않았다. 따라서 소유지배구조가 기업의 혁신활동에 미치는 영향을 분석할 때 보다 정교한 추정방법을 사용할 필요가 있음을 제시한다
Abstract
This paper is intended to analyze the relation between ownership structure and R&D activities of Korean firms. After setting up the hypotheses that external blockholders ownership, managerial ownership and foreign investors ownership affect the R&D activities of firms, we define R&D activites as R&D intensity and number of patent application. The model is estimated by the OLS and the fixed effects model of panel regression. Empirical results show that managerial ownership affects negatively on the R&D activities, while foreign investors ownership affects positively on the R&D activities of firms, But this significant impact disappeared when estimated by the fixed effects model.These results are robust to the definition of R&D activities. So, It is necessary to use the more elaborate estimation method to analyze the impact of ownership structure on the R&D activities of firms.
