Logistics Analysis of Hotel Employee Turnover: Based on Watanabe's Typology

This research examined the relationships between demographic characteristics and turnover types of Japanese hotel employees. Turnover factors in this research are theoretically based on Watanabe's typology of reasons for turnover. Data for the investigation were collected by one of Japanese employment and outplacement agencies from November, 1998 to September, 2001. The number of samples used for analysis are 898 hotel employees from throughout Japan. Hotel employee turnover data was created on the basis of the individual resume, the job curriculum vitae, and the follow-up interview card.The findings showed that there were significant differences of turnover type between demographic characteristics. Age and turnover showed a negative relationship, where young employees' turnover tendency was strong. It became clear that front service employees and high positioned employees had a higher turnover tendency.

Abstract
