A Study on the Present Status and the Design Characteristics of Urban Parks in Beijing City

The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing as an opportunity put forward the construction development of urban parks, and speed up the greening pace of Beijing city. The purpose of this article is to make analysis of Beijing urban parks' status and design characteristics. Then hope this article will become the basis information for future research on urban parks of China and a reference for the development and construction of urban parks of our country. The study methods of this article contain literature research, field survey. Firstly gathered and arranged related materials from library, internet. Then through field survey the information about Beijing urban parks was done to identify and compensate. This article firstly talked about the purpose and significance, simply introduced the park green system of China, and analyzed the status of urban parks in Beijing. At last the design characteristics were analyzed from quality and quantity distribution design, design type, design concept and skill, facility design, ecological technology in design and nightscape design. In summary the conclusions of this article are as follows: Beijing urban parks have been well developed and due to the 2008 Olympics urban parks mostly renovated and facilities improved. And the Beijing government made 2004-2020 to develop well-planned urban parks, wants to improve the urban landscape and the citizens' life. In terms of design, the government paid much more attention on the construction of relics parks and some urban parks combined the traditional element and modern design language together. In the facility design aspect, not only paid attention on the general facilities, but also on the barrier-free facilities for considering the disabled people. Moreover, ecological materials, water circulation system were used. In nightscape design aspect, not only designed for aesthetical view, but also designed for ecological view, and classical gardens were made lighting design concerned with the protection of ecological environment and ancient architectures.
