코스닥시장 신규 상장기업의 장기 경영성과에 관한 실증연구

초록
본 연구는 우리나라 코스닥 시장의 신규상장과 관련하여 장기적 관점에서 재무상태 및 경영성과 등 재무적 특성을 살펴보았다. 1999년부터 2002년까지 코스닥 시장에 신규 상장한 기업을 대상으로 상장 전 3년과 상장 후 5년에 대해 수익성, 활동성, 성장성 및 안정성을 나타내는 재무비율 지표를 선정하여 평균차이분석을 수행하였다. 또한 기업의 특성을 벤처여부와 벤처캐피탈 지원여부에 따라 구분한 후 상장 후 경영성과를 분석하였다. 실증분석결과 코스닥 신규상장 기업들의 수익성과 활동성, 그리고 성장성은 장기적으로 상장 전과 비교할 때 악화된 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 총자산이익률과 자기자본이익률은 상장 직후 현저히 악화되었으며 매년 그 정도가 심해지는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 상장 후 경영성과 차이 분석에서 벤처기업은 일반기업보다 경영성과가 더 낮았으며 벤처캐피탈의 자금을 지원받은 기업은 지원을 받지 않은 기업보다 경영성과가 더욱 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 코스닥 상장기업에 관한 많은 부분들 중에서 투자자 입장에서 투자의사결정을 하는데 영향을 미치는 변수들 중 재무적 특성들이 어떻게 변화하는지를 살펴봄으로써 코스닥 상장기업과 관련된 의사결정자들에게 유용한 정보를 제공하고자 하였다.
Abstract
This study examines the financial position and operational performance of KOSDAQ IPO firms on a long-term basis. Companies that were studied include those that went public on the KOSDAQ during 1999 through 2002, and financial indicators such as profitability, activity, growth, and stability ratios of those companies 3 years before IPO and 5 years after going public were compared with average financial indicators. Furthermore, to assess the performance of venture capital or venture capital injected companies out of the selected 2,889 companies, an additional selection of 1,926 companies was made. Results of the study indicate that KOSDAQ IPO firsms’ profitability, activity, and growth performance worsened compared to pre-IPO, and especially ROA (Return on Assets) and ROE (Return on Equity) deteriorated and worsened each subsequent year. Also, upon examination of operational performance subsequent to go public, venture companies underperformed non-venture companies, and companies that were capital injected by venture capital underperformed those that did not receive such funding. This study takes the stand point of a typical investor, and the changes in financial variables of companies out of the many investment considerations taken into account. The ultimate purpose is to provide decision makers related to KOSDAQ companies useful information.
