Methods only get used if they are practical and economical for the taskin hand. One ofthe first requests from practitioners is for a cut-down version of a method, so that the desired effect can be achieved in the minimum time. This research aims to give a lean version of HCI design which can be applied to smaller systems or be organizations who do not wish to take complex methodology on board. As quick methods are only practical with iterative development and prototyping, the recommendations are set in this context. Information systems require rapid development to produce reports and query screens, and carry out simple transaction processing response to business needs. This paper gives guidelines for designing the two basic interfaces of such systems, data entry and data display.
