창제 당시 한글 디자인 철학에 나타난 숭고미

초록
한글 창제의 철학과 관련한 디자인적 맥락에서의 연구가 간헐적으로 있었다. 이 연구는 기존의 연구와는 다른 관점에서 접근하고 있으며 이론적 배경으로 ‘숭고미학’을 상정하였다. 필자는 세종의 한글 창제 철학과 디자인의 결과로서 한글의 ‘숭고함’이라는 새로운 명제와 의미를 발견하고자 했다. 그 결과, 첫째, 다름에 대한 인식과 발현을 계기로 하는 상충성의 숭고로 수많은 이견(異見)으로 야기되는 상충적 상황과 그에 대한 합의의 결과로서 한글의 숭고미는 경험된다. 둘째, 전통과 관례에 대한 급진적 해체의 결과로서 나타나는 사건적 숭고이다. 한글 창제 당시의 시각에서 볼 때 한글은 경험과 인식 바깥의 사건이다. 숭고의 대상은 일반의 의지와 의도를 넘어선 것으로써 한글은 그 지점에서 숭고미가 발생한다. 셋째, 한글 창제 철학에서 상상력의 초 감성적 인식확장이라는 측면에서 숭고미를 발견할 수 있다. 한글은 창제의 배경, 기획과 제작 등의 전 과정에서 의외성과 파격을 일관함으로써 디자인적 상상력의 일반을 초월하고 있다. 필자는 이 연구를 통해서 한글 창제 철학과 디자인의 결과로서 한글에 대한 우리의 사유를 ‘숭고’의 범주까지 확장하고자 했다. 아울러 한글창제철학과 한글에 대해서 서구적 인식의 틀을 사용하여 또 다른 의미를 발견하였다는 점에서 이 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있다.
Abstract
There has been a study of design context on the philosophy of Hangul invention intermittently. This research approaches with a different point of view than the previous research and brings in ‘Sublime Aesthetics’ theoretically. The author tries to discover a new thesis and meaning on the sublime of Sejong’s Hangul invention philosophy. As a result, first of all, it is the sublime of contradiction which is based on awareness and manifestation of the difference. The sublime of Hangul is shown by the agreement of contradictive different views. Second, it is sublimity from the radical dissolution of tradition and custom. From a point of view of time of Hangul invention, Hangul is an incidence beyond experience and awareness. As the object of sublimity is passing over ordinary will and intention, Hangul’s sublimity is taken effect from it. Third, the sublime of Hangul is founded from the extra-emotional awareness expansion of imaginative idea on Hangul invention philosophy. Hangul rises above imagination as all processes like invention background, design, and production have consistency with unexpect and unconvention. The author is willing to extend thinking of philosophy of Hangul invention to the sublime category throughout this study. Moreover, there is significance that this study pursues another meaning of Hangul invention philosophy from Western thought formality.
