버선 디자인의 표현 특성과 현대적 활용

The purpose of this study is to review the concept, history, type, composition and emblem of Korean socks, Bersun, to analyze the characteristic of visual expression of Beosun design, and to suggest the possibility that Beosun can be used in modern design by reinterpreting its characteristic in a variety of design areas. The most important element in the visual expression characteristic of Beosun design is a line representing curves and straight lines. A curve in restrained curves and bent lines of Soonook-line expresses both feminine charms and fortitude image. Two intersecting oblique lines conveys the tension and active image, and vertical and oblique lines of various quilt in Tarae-Beosun the dynamic, rhythmical or sometimes casual image. The colors of Beosun are dominated by white one of cotton due to fabric, and Tarae-Beosun is fancy due to Daenim with blue or red color, or embroidery with a variety of colors. Tarae- Beosun is decorated with embroidery of plant patterns or geometric ornament. Especially the geometric ornament expresses modern image. Beosun design used in traditional design is made as ornaments that exhibit realistic lines and shapes, and is utilized as accessaries for women. A variety of materials and colors from fabric to metal is used in Beosun design. Expression characteristic of Beosun design was able to be reinterpreted as modern, vintage, military, punk styles by conveying the lines of traditional Beosun and by using materials and colors reflecting recent trend. This study can be used as the basic data to seek a direction of advancing our tradition by reinterpreting the traditional beauty of Beosun in modern point of view.
