본 연구의 목적은 CSR 활동, MCS 이용, 그리고 조직성과간의 관계를 규명하는 것이다. 이에 따라 먼저 전략적인 CSR 활동이 조직성과에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는지에 대하여 검증하고, Simons(1995)의 프레임워크를 적용하여 CSR 활동과 MCS의 진단적·상호작용적 이용에 미치는 영향을 검증한 후, MCS 이용이 조직성과에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 한다. 이를 바탕으로 CSR과 조직성과간의 관계에서 MCS 이용이 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지 역시 통합적으로 제시하고자 한다. 이러한 논의는 장기적인 관점에서 지속가능한 경영을 위한 경쟁전략으로서 CSR 활동의 수행이 조직성과를 직접적으로 증대시킬 수 있는지, 혹은 MCS의 진단적·상호작용적 이용을 강조함으로써 간접적으로 조직성과에 영향을 미칠 수 있는지에 대한 논의를 가능하게 할 것이다. 연구 결과, CSR 활동은 차원과 관계없이 조직성과에 직접적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 한편, 윤리적 책임차원의 CSR 전략은 MCS의 상호작용적 이용에 정(＋)의 영향을 미치고, 이해관계자 관계강화를 위한 CSR 전략은 MCS의 진단적 이용에 부(－)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, MCS의 진단적·상호작용적 이용은 조직의 재무·비재무성과에 유의한 정(＋)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데, CSR 활동과 MCS 이용, 조직성과간의 관계를 종합적으로 살펴볼 때, 윤리적 책임과 관련된 CSR 활동은 MCS의 상호작용적 이용을 강조하여 간접적으로 조직성과를 증진시킬 수 있음을 보였다.
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the relationship of CSR activities, use of MCS, and organizational performance. Firstly, we examine if the strategic CSR activities directly affect organizational performance. Second, this study tests how CSR activities influence the diagnostic and interactive use of MCS by applying Simons’s(1995) LOC framework. Third, we focus on the role of MCS use in the relationship between CSR and organizational performance with integrative approach. This study will be a base for the discussion on whether CSR activities as a competitive strategy directly improve organizational performance or they indirectly affect performance by emphasizing the diagnostic and interactive use of MCS. The results show that CSR activities, irrespective of their different dimensions, do not directly affect organizational performance. Additionally, only the ethical responsible dimension of CSR strategy positively affects the interactive use of MCS, while the CSR strategy of strengthening relationships with stake－holders negatively influence the diagnostic use of MCS. Also, the use of MCS is positively associated with organizational performance. As such, in the integrative perspective, the CSR activities related to ethical responsibility emphasize the interactive use of MCS, and, in turn, indirectly improve organizational performance.
