산업화 시대에 문명의 발전이 가증될수록 인간은 자연으로부터 소외된다. 그러나 발생의 근원인 자연으로 회귀하고 싶어 하는 인간의 욕구도 동시에 커져가고 있다. 따라서 디자인의 역할은 자연성의 반영을 통해 인간미의 회복을 추구함을 목표로 해야 할 것이다. 본 작품 논문은 자연성을 시각화할 대상으로 가공식품인 ‘식용유의 용기 디자인’을 선정하였다. 용기 디자인에 내재되어 있는 친환경적 조형요소의 특성을 식용유의 용기 디자인에 반영하여 자연성이 반영된 디자인을 도출함을 목적으로 하고 있다. 따라서 국내외의 식용유 용기 디자인을 분석해보고 자연성을 상징할 연관 개념을 추출하여 이를 기반으로 자연의 상징성을 가진 조형요소들을 반영하는 작업을 진행한다. 이를 위해서 자연이라는 단어로부터 연관어를 조사하고 이들로부터 네 가지의 관념구(觀念句)를 추출하여 이를 조형적 요소로 시각화하였다. 이는 자연의 선물, 자연의 활력, 자연의 빛, 자연의 품격이다. 자연의 선물은 부드러운 곡선과 볼륨감을 통해, 자연의 활력은 중첩된 라인과 상승하는 곡선을 통해, 자연의 빛은 원과 부드러운 곡선을 통해, 그리고 자연의 품격은 수직과 수평의 직선을 통해 디자인에 반영하였다. 이러한 특성은 용기 형태의 기본적인 디자인 모티브에 반영되었으며, 그 결과 간결하고 기능미를 잃지 않으면서도 자연친화적 컨셉을 은유적 표현과 더불어 심미적 가치를 연구 작품에 반영할 수 있었다. 이로 인하여 인간과 자연 모두에게 이로운 디자인, 지속가능한 미래를 위한 패러다임의 변화에 기여하길 바란다.
Abstract
As civilization is more progressed in the period of industrialization, humans are alienated from nature. However, humans' desire to go back to nature which is the root of occurrence is also growing at the same time. Thus, design should aim for pursuing the recovery of humanity through the reflection of naturality. This paper has selected the 'design of cooking oil container' as a subject to visualize naturality. It aims to draw design reflecting naturality by reflecting the characteristics of eco-friendly formative elements inherent in container design to the design of cooking oil container. Therefore, after analyzing domestic/international designs of cooking oil container and then extracting associative concepts symbolizing naturality, the formative elements with the symbolism of nature are reflected. Researching associative words from the word 'nature' and then extracting four conceptual phrases, they were visualized with formative elements. They are the gift of nature, vitality of nature, light of nature, and dignity of nature. The gift of nature was reflected to the design through smooth curves and volume while the vitality of nature was reflected to the design through overlapped lines and rising curves. The light of nature was reflected to the design through circles and smooth curves while the dignity of nature was reflected to the design through vertical/horizontal straight lines. Such characteristics were reflected to the basic design motif of the container shape, and in the results, the simple, functional, and eco-friendly concept could be reflected to the research work on top of the metaphorical expression and aesthetic value. It is expected to contribute to changes in paradigm for the sustainable future and design beneficial to both human and nature.
