최근 세계화가 가속화되고 사회 변화가 심화 됨에 따라, 사회적 문제들을 해결하기 위한 효과적인 정책 수립의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 따라 사용자 중심 혁신이나 개방형 혁신 및 디자인 혁신 등 다양한 산업혁신 모델들이 사회문제 해결의 수단으로 제시되고 있다. 특히, 2014년 국내에 리빙랩(Living Lab) 개념이 소개된 이후, 리빙랩은 기존의 혁신 모델들을 보완하며 국가적 차원에서 주요 사회문제 해결의 새로운 방향을 제시하고 있다. 기존의 연구개발 모델들이 실질적인 생활 개선과 사회 시스템 혁신을 이끌어 내는데 한계를 보인 반면, 리빙랩은 실생활 속에서 사용자의 직접적인 참여를 통해 문제를 해결하고 새로운 사회･기술 시스템을 구축할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 이에 따라, 리빙랩은 지역사회 내에서 사용자들이 직접 참여하는 개방형 혁신 모델로서 그 가치를 인정받으며 활용 범위를 확대해가고 있다. 본 연구에서는 리빙랩을 포함한 새로운 산업혁신 모델들 사이의 연관성 및 차별성을 선행연구를 바탕으로 분석하였는데, 기존의 세 가지 주요 산업혁신 모델(사용자 혁신, 개방형 혁신, 디자인 혁신 등)과 비교하며 리빙랩의 특성과 잠재력을 탐색하였다. 리빙랩이 국내에 도입된 지 비교적 짧은 기간에도 불구하고, 지역사회 문제해결에 있어 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 이러한 분석을 통해, 본 연구는 리빙랩을 통한 사회적 문제 해결의 가능성을 모색하고, 이를 기반으로 보다 발전된 산업혁신과 리빙랩의 개선 방안 및 담론을 찻고자 하였다.
Abstract
Recently, as globalization has accelerated and social changes have deepened, the importance of establishing effective policies to solve social problems has been emphasized. Accordingly, various industrial innovation models, such as user-centered innovation, open innovation, and design innovation, are being presented as a means of solving social problems. In particular, since the concept of Living Lab was introduced in Korea in 2014, Living Lab complements existing innovation models and presents a new direction for solving major social problems at the national level. Existing research and development models show limitations in bringing about real improvements in life and social system innovation. On the other hand, living labs show the possibility of solving problems and building new social and technological systems through direct participation of users in real life. Living Lab is an open innovation model in which users directly participate within the community, and its value is recognized and its scope of use is expanding. In this study, the correlation and differentiation between new industrial innovation models, including living labs, were analyzed based on previous research. The characteristics and potential of living labs were explored by comparing them with the three existing major industrial innovation models (user innovation, open innovation, design innovation, etc.). Despite the relatively short period since living labs were introduced in Korea, they are playing an important role in solving community problems. Through this analysis, this study sought the possibility of solving social problems through living labs, and based on this, sought to develop more developed industrial innovations and improvement plans and discourses on living labs.
