A Study on the Influence of AI-Based Technology on Hair Beauty Industry

In this study, as continuous discussions and studies on the application and applicability of the AI-based hair care industry progress, we intend to understand the trend and characteristics of domestic academic papers. Data collection was analyzed to analyze trends in AI-related research in the hair beauty field. Theses were searched by combining search terms such as hair, design, artificial intelligence, and AI in major academic databases (RISS, DBPA, KISS, etc.), and the final 22 papers were selected for analysis. As a result of the analysis, first, domestic research related to AI-based hair beauty began with one thesis in 2022, and in the year 23, four academic journals and one degree were published. It was confirmed as 4 academic journals and 3 degrees in 2024, and in 2025, there was a continuous increase in trend to 7 academic journals, 2 degrees, and a total of 9 degrees. Second, 11 out of 22 studies on the development and application of artificial intelligence-based programs accounted for 50% of the trend of AI-related research, followed by six (27.2%) theoretical and directional considerations on concepts, principles, theories, and directions, and five (22.7%) studies on the perception of AI-based users. Third, as a method of AI-based hair beauty-related research, qualitative research methods were most often used with nine, followed by development and quantitative studies with seven and six, respectively, to find out the applicability and applicability of the field, and to verify the effects of users in various ways. Fourth, various AI technologies are used in AI-related research, such as increasing acceptance expectations and applications through voice AI and generative AI experience, virtual experience, image generation technology, Generative AI and StyleCLIP models to explore the possibility of use in beauty marketing, education, and product advertising, suggesting how to predict trends and use them as visual data using prompt engineering methodology, hair production and formative research applying Photoshop, Firefly, and Cinematic Thinking Techniques, a hair style recommendation system applying big data and deepfakes, empirical research exploring other consumers’ perceptions and reactions to the introduction of robo-advisors, and developing hair modeling using 3D Vroid Studio and metaverse. Through this study, it is expected that it can be used as basic data to suggest directions for follow-up research and program practice and activation.
