기업어음 신용등급변경기업의 주가반응과 특징

초록
1997년 말 외환위기를 겪으면서 대규모 기업들이 부도 혹은 부도유예사태를 당하게 되면서, 동남아 외환 금융위기가 확산되면서 신용평가의 중요성이 크게 부각되었고, 신용평가기관에 의한 평가의 필요성과 이 분야에 대한 많은 연구가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 기업어음 신용등급의 변화 자체가 주가에 영향을 미치는지 즉, 신용등급변화의 정보효과를 사건연구를 중심으로 실증적으로 분석함으로써 주식시장의 효율성 및 정보기능을 검증하는데 그 목적이 있다. 기업어음 신용등급이 변화한 117개 상장기업을 대상으로 시장조정수익률 모형을 사용하여 산출한 평균누적초과수익률을 분석한 결과, 우리나라의 주식시장은 기업의 재무상태와 영업상태를 수시로 주가에 반영하며, 등급상향 공시는 정(+)의 시장반응을, 등급하향공시는 부(-)의 시장반응을 보였다. 정보효과를 보기 위한 3CAR의 분석에 있어서는 등급상승의 경우에만 주가의 유의한 움직임이 관찰되었고, 하락의 경우에는 주가의 유의한 움직임이 관찰되지 않았다. 이는 신용등급의 하락의 경우에는 주가에 이미 반영된 정보 이상의 새로운 정보를 시장에 제공하지 못함을 의미한다. 또한 기업규모가 작을수록 정보효과가 더 크게 나타났으며, 등급변화정도나 등급 간․내 여부는 3CAR에 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타나 정보효과가 그다지 크지 못하는 것으로 분석되었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine empirically the information content of commercial paper rating changes on common stock price. In order to examine information content, the sample used in this research consists of 117 listed companies which experienced commercial paper credit rating changes over the 1998~2002 period and used market adjusted return model to calculate cummulative abnormal return. The results of this research are summarized as follows：First, stock market reflects company's financial position income in the stock prices from time to time. The upgrading announcement of the commercial paper indicated positive abnormal return and the downgarding announcement of the CP indicated negative abnormal return. Second, rating change to upgrades has a significantly positive effect and rating change to downgrades has not a significantly negative effect on 3CAR's analysis. This means that there are no new information more than mere information that is reflected already in the stock prices in case of rating change to downgrades to market. Third, the smaller firm size is, the more information content appeared greatly. The other variables do not influence to 3CAR for examining information content of rating changes.
