정보기술성과에 영향을 미치는 정보기술부문 전략과 투자방향의 특성
The Attributes of IT Strategy and IT Investment Effects on IT Performance

본 연구는 최근 정보기술에 대한 투자의 규모가 급증하고 있는 상황에서, 조직마다 정보기술의 성과가 다르게 나타나는 것의 근본적 원인을 조직마다 정보기술의 전략적 목표와 정보기술에 대한 투자의 방향이 다르기 때문이라고 인식하였다. 이러한 인식을 규명하기 위해 이전 연구를 근거로 정보기술전략의 구성개념을 운영지향성(operation orientation)과 시장지향성(market orientation)으로 구분하였고, 정보기술투자방향은 내부시스템집중성(internal system focused)과 외부시스템집중성(external system focused)으로 분류하였으며, 정보기술성과 역시 내부운영성과(operational performance)와 경쟁우위성과(competitive performance)로 나누었다. 그리고 여섯 개 구성개념의 인과관계와 관련된 연구가설이 수립되었고, AMOS 4.0을 이용한 구조방정식에 의해 검정하였다. 자료는 국내 제조업체 중 상장기업 625개 업체와 비상장기업 154개 업체로 구성된 표본집단에서 우편 및 방문조사를 통해 수집되었으며, 일부 자료를 제외하고 최종적으로 135개 업체의 자료를 분석에 활용하였다. 가설검정의 결과를 보면, 정보기술전략의 운영지향성은 정보기술성과의 내부운영성과에 영향을 미치고 정보기술전략의 시장지향성은 경쟁우위성과에 영향을 미치고 있다. 정보기술전략과 정보기술투자방향의 관계에서는 정보기술전략이 내부운영 효율성 향상에 초점을 두고 있는 경우는 외부시스템집중성보다는 상대적으로 내부시스템집중성에 보다 많은 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 정보기술전략의 시장지향성은 정보기술투자의 외부시스템집중성에 유의적인 영향을 주었다. 그리고 정보기술투자방향과 정보기술성과의 관계를 보면 정보기술투자의 내부시스템집중성은 정보기술성과의 경쟁우위성과보다는 내부운영성과에 보다 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면, 정보기술투자의 외부시스템집중성은 정보기술성과의 내부운영성과와 경쟁우위성과 모두에 유의적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 보면, 정보기술전략이 운영 효율성을 추구하는 경우는 조직 내부의 생산성과 효율성을 높이는 방향으로 정보기술을 활용하게 될 것이고, 그 결과 경영관리비용절감, 노동생산성향상, 부서간 업무조정의 편이성 등과 같은 내부운영성과가 높게 나타날 것으로 예상할 수 있는 반면, 정보기술전략이 경쟁우위를 확보하는데 초점을 두고 있는 경우는 시장세력에 대한 교섭력 강화나 제품․서비스의 차별성을 높이는 방향으로 정보기술을 활용할 것이고, 그 결과 고객․공급자관계 강화, 제품․서비스 혁신, 유통․물류 혁신, 매출액․시장점유율 증가와 같은 경쟁우위성과가 높게 나타날 것이라는 점을 예견할 수 있다.
Abstract
Many organizations experience that the performance they gained from IT investment is lower than they expected values. As with any investment, executives are concerned with maximizing the performance from their investment in IT. This study focused on the relationship between IT strategy and IT investment to maximize IT performance.A field survey of chief information officer of Korea manufacturing sector was conducted. Complete data for 135 firms was analyzed to determine relationship of the six research constructs. Structured equation model(SEM) was used to investigate the relationship among six constructs.The IT strategy was related to the IT performance positively. The companies which are focused on operation orientation were operational performance higher than competitive performance. On the other hand, the companies which are focused on market orientation were competitive performance higher than operational performance. The IT strategy was related to the IT investment positively. The companies which are putting a focus with operational orientation were concentrated on an internal information system than an external information system. On the other hand, the companies which are putting a focus with market orientation were concentrated on an external information systems than an internal information systems. The IT investment was related to the IT performance positively. The companies which are concentrated on internal information systems were operational performance higher than competitive performance.The results emphasize manager's efforts to fit between IT strategy and IT investment directions to be realized IT performance.
