수출 중소기업의 정보기술 활용정도 및 수출 성과에 관한 연구
Use of Information Technology and Export Performance: An Empirical Investigation of Small and Medium-sized Exporters in Korea

본 연구는 우리나라 수출 중소기업을 대상으로 ‘정보기술 활용 정도에 영향을 미치는 요인 → 정보기술 활용 정도 → 수출 성과’에 이르는 관계를 종합적으로 모형화하여 분석하되, 정보기술 활용은 수출계약 체결 이전과 이후를 구분하였다. 이러한 접근은 첫째, 정보기술 활용에 영향을 미치는 요인과 정보기술 활용이 성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 개별적 연구는 비교적 많이 있었으나, 이들의 관계를 종합적으로 분석한 연구는 별로 없다는 점, 둘째, 정보기술 활용에 영향을 미치는 요인들에 대한 기존연구들의 고려 범위가 충분치 못한 경향이 있다는 점, 셋째, 수출계약 체결 이전과 이후를 구분하여 분석한 연구가 별로 없다는 점 등을 전체적으로 보완할 수 있다는 점에서 새로운 시도라 할 수 있다. 분석 결과 제품특성, 기업특성, 산업특성이 정보기술 활용정도에 영향을 미친다는 가설이 적어도 부분적으로 지지되었으며, 정보기술의 활용 정도가 높을수록 수출성과가 좋아진다는 가설이 강하게 지지되었다. 일부 가설의 지지 여부 및 통계적 유의성 정도가 수출계약 체결 전후 단계에 따라 다르게 나타난 점은 그 자체로 의미 있는 해석을 가능하게 할 뿐 아니라, 후속연구에서 이를 구분하여 논의할 필요성을 제기하는 것으로 볼 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study empirically investigates the relationships among the three blocks of variables; a) product, firm, and industry-specific factors, b) use of information technology, and c) export performance, based on the survey data from Korean small and medium-sized exporters (SMEs). In the research model we separate the information technology use into two stages, 'before' and 'after' the conclusion of the export contract.The results show that hypotheses relating product, firm, and industry-specific factors to information technology use are supported, at least in part. The results also strongly support the hypothesis that the more information technology Korean SMEs use the better export performance they get. Statistical supports or significance levels for some hypotheses were different between 'before' and 'after' stages, which provides some implications. This also implies that we need more conceptual and empirical research which takes into account the difference between information technology usage pattern before and after the export contract.
