민선 기초자치단체장의 개인적 특성에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study was to analyze the leadership of the mayors elected in the local government election from the 1st to the 4th Civil Election and to propose the methods to improve their leadership. For the purpose of the study, we analyzed the traits of the leadership of the elected mayors from the 1st to the 4th election, their policy direction and the leadership traits and factors of those who succeeded in reelection. Finally, we made proposals for the policy and leadership improvement methods for the future elected mayors based on the analysis result. First of all, we analyzed personal traits of the elected mayors from the 1st to the 4th election. When looking into their traits, most of them are in the age of 50s and 60s and over university graduates and had been the head officer in an organization, public servant or local government congressmen. Most of them were elected by winning the mind and heart of the people winning over 50% votes. In terms of party that they belong to, those in opposite parties showed remarkable dominance comparing to those in ruling party. Finally, in the reelection rate, in the second election, there were many who were reelected. However in the third and fourth election, there were relatively more newly elected.
