기업의 교육훈련비가 경영성과에 미치는 영향

기업들의 교육훈련비 지출은 기업 구성원들의 지식과 기술로 체화되어 향후 기업의 생산성과 경쟁력을 강화하는 중요한 요인임에도 불구하고 지역 기업들은 교육훈련비 지출의 자산적 가치에 대한 중요성을 여전히 인식하지 못하고 있으며, 지자체 역시 하드웨어적 지원에 집중하여 기업 경쟁력 강화를 위한 교육훈련 지원 정책에는 인색한 실정이다. 본 연구의 목적은 교육훈련비 지출이 기업 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 실증분석을 통해 교육훈련비 지출의 무형자산적 가치 인식에 대한 타당한 근거를 제시하고, 기업들의 인적자원개발에 대한 전략적 중요성과 중장기적 투자의 필요성을 제시하는 것에 있다. 패널분석 결과, -1기와 -3기에서의 교육훈련비 지출이 기업 경영성과와 1% 수준에서 통계적으로 유의적인 양(+)의 관계를 나타내었다. 또한, 추가분석을 통해 교육훈련 전담부서 및 담당자 유무, 교육훈련 프로그램 운영 여부 등의 기업특성 집단에서 교육훈련비 지출과 기업 경영성과 간에 유의적인 양(+)의 관계를 확인하였다. 이러한 연구결과는 기업들에게 교육훈련비 지출이 단지 비용의 지출이 아닌 미래 기업의 경제적 효익과 경쟁력을 제고시키는 자산적 가치를 가지는 투자개념으로 접근하여야 하며, 지자체의 경우에도 지역 기업의 지속가능한 발전을 위해 적극적으로 교육훈련을 지원하여야 함을 시사하는 것이다.
Abstract
The differentiated strategy in education & training investment and strategic human resource management of firms is main factor as for creating a competitive advantage. This has important effect on business growth in mid- and long-term. The main purpose of this study is to test the effects of education & training expenses on firm business performance, and to show strategic importance and investment necessity of human resources development to firms and local government in mid- and long-term. For this purpose, this study empirically tested the effects of education & training expenses on firm performance. The author conducted empirical analysis with panel test model including firm performance as dependent variable, education & training expenses as independent variable, and R&D costs and advertising costs as control variable. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, education & training expenses were found to have positively significant effect on firm performance and firm value. Second, education & training expenses were found to have effects on firm performance since three years ago. These results indicate that firms have to increase education & training investment to strengthen the competitiveness, and local governments have to support education & training system of local firms in mid- and long-term.
