In using U.S. manufacturing MNCs' FDI for 50 countries over the period 1999-2007, this study estimates the effect of quality of governance institutions of the host country on the different types (e.g., market seeking and efficiency seeking FDI) of U.S. manufacturing MNCs' FDI. In controlling for other possible factors, research findings show that the effect of quality of governance institutions of the host country is positively and significantly associated with efficiency seeking FDI, but not with market seeking FDI.
