미야자키하야오 애니메이션의 메카닉 디자인 조형성 연구

Various types of mechanics in animation provide visual pleasure as well as emotional release to its viewers. Further, the mechanics work as a vital role to immerse in animation. The design of mechanics can be defined as “a thing that is based on various powers, has various mechanical and complex structure, and is operated by human’s control,” and it is an indefinite filed of the author to express own imagination. Various types of mechanics are appeared on Miyazaki Hayao’s animation where he expresses the idea of preserving environment, humanity, antiwar, and etc. It is like a pocket watch that is composed of outdated machines that do not exist in anywhere, gears and springs, and screws. Mechanics never can be operated without controller, which strongly implicates that his mechanics are tools of human. He further uses numerous mechanics to provide fun and sense of freedom to audiences. Mechanics in his works have an important role of distinguishing them from other mechanics in his other works that have two distinctive characteristics of “retro style through material roughness” and “distinctiveness and hybrid structure of different animals.” This study has a purpose to understand Miyazaki Hayao’s works in depth by analyzing distinctive features and functional meanings of mechanics in his works and to find possibility of expansion of the mechanic design.
