A Review Of Hofstede’s Fifth Cultural Dimension In China - Accomplishment And Challenges -

Hofstede (1991) added one additional dimension which called “Confucian dynamism” as a fifth dimension, “long-versus short-term orientation”, also known as ‘Confucian work dynamism’, to his cultural dimensions. This dimension was based on Chinese traditional culture to found. With Hofstede’s cultural dimensions development, more and more researchers focus on it, and put forward support and critique sights. This thesis chooses 59papers which included 28 Chinese papers and 31 English papers, made a classification and analysis in details. We can see Chinese researchers who and how can research the culture or economic or strategies by Hofstede’s fifth dimension, other country researches use their viewpoints and dates to research by Confucian dynamism. I hope that my review helps researchers improve their Confucian cultural ideas, also hope that it motivates future researchers to look beyond this paradigm to break new ground with regard to Confucian cultural investigations.
