Proposing a New Decision Making Framework Through The Analysis of the Pros and Cons About Nuclear Energy

In past decades, the nuclear power debate has become widely acknowledged as one of the most controversial issues. Especially, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster has rekindled a long simmering debate in South Korea over whether nuclear power - with its expense, its waster, and its risk - is worth it. Advocates of nuclear power argue that nuclear energy is a sustainable source, which can reduce carbon emissions with lower costs. Opponents emphasize severe threats of nuclear power to people and the environment. However, the ceaseless nuclear power debate can increase public negative perceptions of risk, which make it difficult to understand the advantages of nuclear power. Considering the effect public opinion has on decision-making, it is necessary to develop various methods to facilitate public participation in decision-making processes. An appropriate decision-making system might give our society a chance to enhance the level of socio-political acceptance with regard to the use of nuclear energy.
