A Mathematical Analysis of Eyebrow Make-up Design

Elements of eyebrow make-up to be in harmony with a face such as eyebrow direction, forms of eyebrow lines, and length of eyebrow lines are applied in many ways as the case may be. However, when eyebrow makeup is designed or analyzed to go well with a theme and make-up design is explained in words, most cases rely only on aesthetic feelings rather than express as scientific logic by mathematical approach. Thus, this study is purposed to analyze the components of eyebrow make-up design according to exact measurement of mathematical concept rather than limit them to aesthetic aspects. In order to achieve this purpose, theoretical and empirical researches were conducted at the same time. Theoretical backgrounds on items suitable for mathematical approach of eyebrow make-up design were reviewed by previous theses and literature. Then, eyebrow tilt, curve degree, and the rate of length change which constitute eyebrow make-up design were made by functions and applied to each mathematical item. Finally, the average rate of change according to eyebrow make-up tilt, the curvature of curve degree, and the golden ratio of eyebrow length and the location of eyebrow peak were empirically analyzed. Based on the findings, the average rate of change could apply to understanding the degree of eyebrow line tilt, curvature could apply to grasping the shape of eyebrow lines, and finally, golden ratio could apply to understanding the ratio of eyebrow lines.
