디자인일반교육의 현황 및 정책 제안

The general education in design is a relative concept of vocational education in design; and this type of education in design translates into a process, where any person may acquire the necessary subjects of general education. The general education in design does not necessarily educate designers that will engage in creating designs in the future because this type of education also accommodates people that enjoy and embrace designs as consumers. In the past, design education centered on vocational high school students, college students, or students seeking a higher degree in education. Today, the concept of design has expanded to our daily lives, becoming an interest of the general public. Moreover, the expansion of design market fosters future design consumers. Design education creates practical designs, nurtures the ability to solve problems, and increases creativity in daily lives; therefore, the weight of design education has increased as well as in general education. The author of this paper has studied the general education in design as a design present condition report researcher of Korea Craft and Design Foundation in 2013. This paper is based on the data that the author conducted. The scope of this study includes general education in design provided by elementary school, middle school, high school, and college’s general education. Because design has become a part of our daily lives, design education should be expanded from creating designs to educating consumers.
