업사이클링을 컨셉으로 하는 작가주의 디자인의 조형특성

디자이너의 창작과 제작환경이 변화하면서 예술로서 디자인이라고 할 수 있는 작가주의 디자인이 등장하게 되었다. 디자이너가 자신의 창작물을 표현의 매개체로 하여 다양한 미적 가능성을 시도하는 것으로 디자인 사고보다는 예술적 사고를 더욱 강하게 반영하는 개념이라고 볼 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 뜨거운 관심을 받고 있는 작가주의 디자인의 의미와 작품의 조형특성과 구체화시키는 디자인 접근방법에 대해 파악하고자 한다. 연구의 대상은 작가주의 디자인을 표방하는 디자이너들이 가장 많이 찾는 이슈인 업사이클링(upcycling) 디자인으로 하였다. 업사이클링 컨셉은 현재 대부분이 공감하는 이슈이기도 하고, 디자인 결과물로 완성하였을 경우 메시지의 전달이 비교적 명확하게 반영될 수 있기 때문이다. 연구의 목적은 예술적 사고를 바탕으로 자신만의 작품을 제작하고자 하는 디자이너들에게 창의적 영감을 제공하고, 디자인에 예술적 역량을 발휘하는데 도움을 주고자 하는 것이다. 연구방법은 사례분석의 방법으로 하였고, 사례는 작가주의 디자인, 예술가구, 조명, 디자인아트 등과 관련된 단행본, 학술논문 등의 문헌자료를 토대로 하였으며, 인터넷 기사와 해외 전시회, 아트 페어 등의 자료도 조사범위에 포함시켰다. 연구의 범위는 앞서 언급한 바와 같이 업사이클링 디자인을 컨셉으로 하는 작품으로 한정하였다. 작품 분석을 통해 나타난 조형 특성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 원재료로 쓰인 오리지널 오브제의 세월의 기록과 흔적을 작품의 조형요소로 적극 활용한다. 둘째, 재활용 소재의 물리적 성질을 파악하고 이 맥락을 그대로 반영할 수 있는 창작물로 재해석 한다. 셋째, 가공되지 않은 거친 자연의 조형을 그대로 표현한다. 디자인 접근방법은 첫째, 재활용하고자 하는 원재료의 기록과 역사를 그대로 담기 위한 방법을 지금의 기술에서 찾는 것이다. 둘째, 재활용하려는 원재료의 미적 조형성을 극대화 시킬 수 있는 창의적 요소를 찾아낸다. 셋째, 원재료는 빈티지한 특성상 유일무이한 재료가 될 수밖에 없다. 그러므로 재료적 특성이나 수작업의 제작방식을 통해 자연스럽게 유일품 또는 한정판이라는 희소가치를 부여하는 방법 등을 찾을 수 있었다.
Abstract
As designers' creative and production environments change, auteurism design came to appear that reflects artistic thinking more than design thinking. The purpose of this study is to provide creative inspiration to designers by grasping how to expression of auteurism design and to help designers demonstrate their artistic competence. The subjects of the study are upcycling design. Research methods are based on literature such as monographs and academic papers related to art furniture, art lighting, design art, and that also include materials such as Internet articles, overseas exhibitions and art fairs. As a result of analyzing the work, the characteristics of the aesthetic expression are as follows. First, express the artistry by using the record of the time of the original objet as the formative element of the work. Second, re-interpret the physical properties of recycled materials as creations. Third, expresses the raw form of rough and unprocessed nature. The design method for implementing this expression is as follows. First, use modern technology to record the history of the product and to recycle to be recycled. Second, find the elements that can maximize aesthetic formativeness in the product to be recycled. Third, give a value of scarcity by making limited edition of small quantity or just one, because of the product to be recycled is unique.
