대학생의 창업결정과정: 근거이론적 접근

본 연구는 근거이론 접근을 사용하여 창업을 자신의 진로로 결정한 대학생의 창업결정과정 경험을 밝힘으로써 한국의 사회·문화적 맥락에 적합한 실체이론을 개발하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 세평적 사례선택(reputation case selection)을 통해 선정된 사례들로부터 눈덩이 표집(snowball sampling)을 활용하여 창업결정 대학생 최종 16명을 선정했다. 이들과 2~3회 개인별 면담을 하고, 그 자료를 근거이론의 방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1998)에 따라 분석했다. 자료 분석 결과, 개방 코딩(open coding)을 통해 총 420개의 개념(concepts), 40개의 하위범주(subcategories), 16개의 범주(categories)가 생성되었다. 패러다임 분석(paradigm analysis) 결과, 중심현상(central phenomenon)은 ‘좌절 경험을 통한 대안 찾기, 창업이라는 진로 발견’으로 나타났다. 연구참여자들은 중심현상에 대처하기 위한 실제 행동전략, 즉 작용/상호작용 전략(action/interaction strategies)으로 ‘창업 의지에 날개 달기’, ‘창업가 접촉 기회 및 긍정적 피드백’, ‘창업가로서의 능력 검증’, ‘사회적 자원의 적극적 동원’을 사용했다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 참여자들에게 나타난 결과는 ‘창업을 통해 나의 길 가기’, ‘현실적 창업토대구축’이었다. 본 연구는 대학생의 창업결정과정에서 나타난 경험을 근거이론의 방법을 통해 심층적으로 살펴봄으로써, 창업을 자신의 진로로 결정한 대학생에 대하여 실체적 정보와 지식을 제공하고, 진로교육 및 상담 차원의 차별화된 맞춤형 서비스와 지원전략을 제안했다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a theory suitable for the Korean socio-cultural context Korea by revealing the experience of the start-up decision process of university students as a chosen career path. The final 16 subjects were selected using snowball sampling from the cases selected through detailed case selection. They were interviewed between 2 to 3 times, and the data were analyzed according to the grounded theory method. A total of 420 concepts, 40 subcategories, and 16 categories were created through open coding. As a result of paradigm analysis, the central phenomenon was found to be ‘finding alternatives through frustrating experiences and career discovery of start-ups’. Participants used ‘winging the will to start a business’, ‘opportunities to contact entrepreneurs and positive feedback’, ‘competence verification as entrepreneurs’, ‘active mobilization of social resources’ as action strategies to cope with the central phenomena. This study is meaningful in that it provides substantial information and knowledge to university students regarding the processes involved in selecting engaging in start-up enterprises as a viable, alternative career path.
