초록
The South Pacific Ocean is the important fishing areas for Korea's distant water fisheries, where more than 70% of Korea's tuna production are made. However, the policies and measures of South Pacific coastal countries and the Regional fisheries management organizations(RFMOs) are putting pressure on distant water fisheries due to the recent decrease in fishery resources, the strengthening of international fisheries standards, and consumer demand. Such policies and measures are incluing limiting catches and fishing days, transparency in the entire production process of fishery, improvement of working conditions and human rights of fishermen, and strengthening of monitoring of fisheries incorporating innovative technologies. Accordingly, this study aims to prepare a plan for Korean distant water fishery to stably operate in th South Pacific by analyzing fishing conditions and identifying challenges for the Korean distant water fisheries against the new norm and measures of the South Pacific.
