글로벌 헬스케어 기업들의 ESG 효율성에 관한 연구

초록
최근 헬스케어 산업에서 ESG 경영의 중요성이 커지고 있다. ESG 경영은 환경, 사회, 지배구조 활동으로 이루어지며, 기업의 지속가능성에 대한 평가 기준으로 주목받고 있다. ESG 경영의 중요성에도 불구하고 ESG 활동을 효율성 측면에서 분석한 연구는 아직 부족하다. 이에 본 연구는 2021년 포춘 글로벌 500에 선정된 헬스케어 섹터 기업을 대상으로 DEA 모형을 사용하여 ESG 효율성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, ESG 고효율성을 나타내는 기업들을 규명하였으며, ESG 성과(점수)와 효율성이 동일 결과를 나타내는 것이 아님을 확인하였다. 또한, 기업이 속한 지역에 따라 ESG 효율성은 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않지만, ESG 점수는 유의미한 차이를 보이고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 기업들은 ESG 성과 점수뿐만 아니라 ESG 효율성 평가의 중요성을 확인할 수 있으며, ESG 효율성이 뒤처지는 아시아 대륙 기업들은 효율성 측면에서 ESG 활동을 강화하는 것이 필요함을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
Recently, the importance of ESG is rapidly growing in the healthcare industry. ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance, and refers to three key non-financial components for corporate sustainability. ESG research is mainly focused on studying the impact of ESG practices on corporate performance, but many attempts have yet to analyze ESG in terms of efficiency. Our research fills this gap by analyzing ESG efficiency of global healthcare companies selected for the 2021 Fortune Global 500 using DEA. Our research identified which healthcare companies accomplished high ESG efficiency, and found that ESG performance and efficiency did not maintain the same results. In addition, it was confirmed that there is a significant difference in ESG scores depending on the region while there is no difference in ESG efficiency. Through these results, companies can confirm the importance of evaluating ESG efficiency, and the need to strengthen ESG practices for efficiency in case of Asian companies.
