한국과 일본의 ESG의 인식 및 현황 연구―2022년 1월 포털사이트 기사 분석을 통하여―

This study aims to investigate the perception and the current state of ESG (environmental, social and governance), an emerging global trend, in Korea and Japan as of January, 2002. Methodologically, a humanities approach is taken to analyze themes, key words, vocabulary, and ESG-related terms in the articles from the major portal sites of both countries. The most frequent themes in Korean articles are 「ESG achievement of domestic companies」 and 「rating」, whereas the frequent items in Japanese articles are 「eco-friendly investment」 and 「social responsibilities in entrepreneurship」, which appeared in the articles of Google (English version) at the same period, Key words and related-terms that co-occur with ESG show the similar pattern. As for lexical distribution, significant differences are found in <work>, <machine>, <tool>, and <responsibility> in Korean articles, and <economy>, <human>, <mind> in Japanese articles. The noticeable words are the titles of domestic company or products in the former, and ESG fund, foreign firms, or economic terminologies in the latter. These findings suggest that Korea, in comparison with Japan as well as global trends, focuses on ESG narrowly as a corporate duty and this study concludes that more effort should be devoted to expanding the understanding of ESG to the entire society.
