영상매체에 따른 삼국지 조조 캐릭터 비교 연구

This study analyzes the character of Cao Cao in the Three Kingdoms era based on Chinese visual media. Historical figures in movies or TV dramas set in the Three Kingdoms period are portrayed according to the intentions of directors and producers. Therefore, it is believed that the visual elements of historical figures depicted in media differ from those described in historical texts and image materials. This study focuses on Cao Cao in “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms” and compares and analyzes the visual elements of Cao Cao’s portrayal in movies, TV dramas, animations, and games. The research results reveal clear differences in Cao Cao’s image across different media. This can be attributed to the interpretations and portrayals by directors and producers. The characterization of Cao Cao based on historical records depicts a complex figure who receives both praise and criticism, with a physical appearance described as short in stature and unattractive. In the novel “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” Cao Cao is portrayed as being seven chi tall, narrow-eyed, and with a long beard. Differences in facial features and characteristics can also be observed in portraits from different eras. Therefore, it is evident that there are limitations and differences in the realistic portrayal of Cao Cao’s appearance in audiovisual media. Further research is needed to analyze not only the character images of other key figures in the Three Kingdoms period but also the utilization of China’s historical background, culture, and aesthetics in the makeup and costume design of movies. This is expected to enhance the understanding of visual media through diverse creative interpretations based on historical facts and realistic character portrayals.
