초록
In the South Korea has the highest suicide rate among OECD countries. This study examines factors associated with suicidal ideation in urban and rural areas, aiming to provide suicide prevention strategies. This study is data from the 2022 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) were analyzed, including 5,587 adults aged 20 and older. Total 4.73% of respondents reported suicidal ideation in the past year. Among them, 74.6% were urban residents and 25.4% were rural residents. Women (53.8%) showed a higher prevalence than men (46.2%). In urban areas, suicidal ideation was most common among those aged 20–39 (42.0%), while in rural areas, it was highest among those aged 60 and older (46.7%). Higher stress levels and smoking increased the risk of suicidal ideation and attempts, whereas mental health counseling significantly reduced these risks. Regional differences in suicidal ideation suggest the need for tailored prevention strategies. Strengthening mental health services, particularly stress management and counseling, could be effective. Future research should explore socioeconomic factors and assess the severity of suicidal ideation for better intervention planning.
