디지털 트윈 사례 분석 기반 시민 참여 UX 전략 연구: 스마트시티 환경에서 인터랙티브 비주얼 스토리텔링을 중심으로

A Study on UX Strategies for Citizen Participation Based on Digital Twin Case Analysis: Focusing on Interactive Visual Storytelling in Smart City Environments. Digital Twin technology in smart cities is attracting attention as an innovative tool that creates a virtual replica of the physical city, enabling real-time data analysis and simulation(Kim 2023; Raes, Concilio, Doran, Temmerman and Crompvoets 2024). This study analyzes various digital twin cases in smart city contexts and explores user experience (UX) strategies to enhance citizen participation. In particular, it focuses on interactive visual storytelling techniques that help citizens intuitively understand complex urban issues and actively participate in decision-making processes. We conduct in-depth analyses of both domestic and international digital twin implementations (e.g., Seoul’s S-Map platform, the case of Herrenberg in Germany) as our methodology. The findings reveal that 1) combining immersive 3D visualization with narrative storytelling to present information, 2) providing interactive platforms where citizens can create urban planning scenarios and give feedback, and 3) incorporating gameful and avatar-based story elements significantly increase citizen engagement and willingness to participate. Based on these insights, we propose interactive visual storytelling-based UX strategies: First, develop an intuitive narrative design that conveys urban data in the form of a story; second, leverage immersive media such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to allow citizens to experientially learn and voice opinions in a virtual city; third, provide a co-creative environment via a participatory platform where anyone can easily contribute to solving urban problems. By presenting a human-centered and creative approach to designing smart city services using digital twins, this study aims to contribute to building a sustainable model of smart citizen participation.
