고려 ‘청자투각칠보무늬향로’의 패턴과 디자인 연구
A Study on Patterns and Design of ‘Celadon Incense Burner with Openwork Seven-Treasures Design’ of Goryeo Dynasty

이 논문은 고려 청자투각칠보무늬향로(국보 제95호)의 패턴과 디자인을 분석하고, 이 작품에 깃든 서사(Narrative)를 풀어내는 데 그 목적이 있다. 국보 제95호 향로는 고려청자 미술 가운데 가장 널리 알려진 작품이다. 하지만 이 작품에 대한 연구는 아직 본격으로 이루어지지 않았고 몇몇 코멘트만 있을 뿐이다. 이 논문에서 가장 공을 들여 살펴본 곳은 향로 손잡이 패턴이다. 지금까지 학계는 향로 손잡이에 일곱 가지 보배 ‘칠보’가 있다 하면서도 정작 분석을 할 때는 어떤 무늬가 칠보인지 구체로 말하지 않고 있다. 이 논문은 향로 손잡이 패턴이 칠보가 아니라 ‘천문(天門)’이라는 점을 새롭게 밝혀내고 있다. 먼저 문화재청, 최순우, 전승창, 유홍준이 향로 패턴과 디자인을 어떻게 보아왔는지 살펴보고, 그 견해가 갖고 있는 문제점을 비판했다. 그런 다음 한국미술에서 연꽃·연잎·씨방이 뜻하는 것을 정리하고, 신석기 빗살무늬토기와 삼한·일본의 본뜬거울 패턴, 고려의 청자 연화형 향로 받침·청자투각 연꽃동자무늬 주전자·청자향로 조각·청자 거북용 장식 향로·칠보무늬 거울·청자 연화형 향로·청자 용장식 향로·청자상감 칠보문 주전자, 조선 백자청화 칠보문호와 백자청화 풀꽃무늬조롱박무늬병의 패턴과 디자인을 분석해 청자투각칠보무늬향로의 구상을 풀어내고 그 패턴과 디자인이 품고 있는 서사를 그려냈다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the patterns and design of ‘Celadon Incense Burner with Openwork Seven-Treasures Design’ of Goryeo Dynasty (National Treasure No. 95) and to unravel the narrative connoted in this work. National Treasure No. 95 Incense Burner is the most widely known Goryeo celadon art. However, the research on this art has yet to be done in earnest and there are only a few comments. The most elaborate part of this paper is patterns of incense burner handle. Until now, academia has said that there are Seven-Treasures on the handle of incense burner, but when analyzing, it does not clearly say which patterns are the Seven-Treasures. This paper newly reveals that the incense burner handle pattern is not Seven-Treasures[七寶] but ‘sky gate[天門]’. First, let's look at how Korea Heritage Service, Choi Soon-woo, Jeon Seung-chang, and Yoo Hong-jun has viewed the incense burner patterns and designs. and I criticized the problems of their views. Then, I summarized the meanings of lotus, lotus leaves, and ovaries in Korean art, and analyzed the patterns and designs of Neolithic comb-pattern pottery and patterns of Mahan Byunghan Jinhan·Japanese mirror, Goryeo's Celadon Lotus Blossom Incense Burner Prop·Celadon Lotus Blossom Child Pattern Kettle·Celadon Incense Burner Fragment·Celadon Turtle Dragon Incense Burner·Seven Treasures Patterns Mirror·Celadon Lotus Blossom Incense Burner·Celadon Dragon Incense Burner·Celadon Kettle with Seven-Treasures patterns, Joseon Blue-White Porcelain Jar painting Seven-Treasures patterns, Joseon Blue-White Porcelain Grass Flower Gourd-Shaped Jar painting Seven-Treasures patterns. Based on this analysis, I unraveled the concept of National Treasure No. 95 incense burner and drew the narrative of its patterns and designs.
