Application and Effectiveness of AI-Based Cognitive Stimulation Programs for Dementia: Policy Implications

초록

This study systematically analyzed domestic and international literature published between 2019 and 2025 to evaluate the utilization and effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI)-based cognitive stimulation programs for individuals with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A total of 16 studies (12 domestic, 4 international) were reviewed. The findings indicate that AI-based interventions significantly improved cognitive function (MMSE-K, MoCA, ADAS-Cog), emotional well-being (GDS-K, PHQ-9), and daily functioning (IADL). Core technological features such as personalized feedback, real-time adaptive content, and remote accessibility contributed to enhanced intervention outcomes. Domestic studies emphasized practical applications in community-based settings, whereas international research highlighted scientific rigor through randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses. These findings suggest that AI-powered cognitive stimulation programs offer a promising non-pharmacological approach to dementia prevention and care, with implications for the development of future digital healthcare models.
