A Study on the Site Survey of the Japanese Small Business- On the Case Study in Tokyo toshimaku -

The small businesses in Japan had been the leading infra structure to support the rapid growth of the national economy. However, the rapidly-increasing value of Yen resulted in the decreasing competitiveness, the structural change of the export industry, and the lack of appropriate labor force in the long run. The Japanese SMEs, which take the 4.8 million companies with the 75% in number and 27% in labor force, have been tried to overcome these difficulties, But their efforts was not effective to solve the regional economic bottlenecks. This study is aimed to analyze the difficult reality of the Japanese SMEs since the burst of bubbles in 1990s. According to the site survey, 83% of SMEs showed the decrease in the sales and thus 50% or less of all the companies suffered with the income of 2 million Yen or less. The SMEs were shown to be more sensitive to the change of the business environment. It was more outstanding by the structural change of the big companies, such as the entry into the discount shops and the decreased order from the big companies.
