Antecedents of Perceived Organizational Support, and it's Mediating Effect on Organizational Citizenship Behavior.

The purpose of this study was threefold : (1) to examine the effects of antecedents such as positive affectivity and locus of control on perceived organizational support, (2) to examine the effects of perceived organizational support on organizational citizenship behavior, (3) and to examine the effect of perceived organizational support as a mediator in the relationships between antecedents and organizational citizenship behavior.* Adjunct Professor, School of Information & Management, Youngsan UniversitySenior Researcher, Entrepreneurial Management Center, Yeungnam University For two months, questionnaire survey was administered by the researcher in 7 companies. Out of 410 responses, only 364 were used as the final set of data for analysis. The results of study showed that positive affectivity did not have any significant effect on any of organizational support variables. Locus of control had a positive effect on the two components of perceived organizational support. Instrumental support had a positive effect on both loyalty behavior and altruistic behavior. Emotional support, however, had a positive effect on loyalty behavior only. Finally, organizational support partially mediated 6 relationships of the 8 relationships between antecedents and organizational citizenship behavior
