본 연구의 목적은 국내의 제조기업들을 대상으로 TQM 실행과 기업성과(운영성과)간에 있어서 통제시스템으로서의 운영통제시스템과 보상시스템의 조정역할(moderator)을 조사하는 것이다. 그리고 이러한 조정역할이 기업 규모에 의해 차이가 있는가를 확인하는데 있다. 연구 결과, TQM 실행과 기업의 운영성과간에 있어서 운영통제시스템은 통제시스템으로서의 조정역할을 수행하는 것으로 나타났으나 보상시스템은 유의적인 역할을 수행하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 운영통제시스템의 활용에 있어서 대기업은 중소기업에 비해 경쟁자 및 시장 등 기업외부의 원천으로부터 정보를 산출·활용하는 외적정보시스템을 보다 활발히 활용하고 있었다. 반면, 중소기업은 외적정보시스템보다는 기업내부의 정보원천으로부터 정보를 산출·활용하는 내적정보시스템을 보다 활발하게 이용하는 것으로 나타났으나 통계적으로 유의적이지는 않았다. 본 연구의 기여는 TQM 실행이 기업성과에 미치는 효과를 파악함에 있어서 반드시 고려되어야 할 통제시스템의 조정역할을 운영통제시스템과 보상시스템으로 세분화하는 가운데 통제시스템의 균형잡힌 활용의 필요성을 확인한데 있다. 부차적으로 기업 규모에 따라 통제시스템의 활용에 필요한 자원배분의 우선순위 결정에 차이가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the moderating role of control system between TQM practices and firm's performance(measured as operating performance) among Korean manufacturing firms. The control systems are divided into operating control system and reward system. Also it is investigated if moderating effect differs between large firms and small and medium firms.The results indicate that operating control system plays a significant moderating role on the relationship between TQM practices and firm's operating performance. However, the research results did not provide evidence that reward system also plays a moderating role on the relationship between TQM practices and firm's operating performance. It was found that the relative influence of external information system for large firms is stronger than that of internal information system when external and internal information systems both play the role of moderator between TQM practices and operating performance. But, the relative influence of internal information system was found to be stronger than external information system in small and medium firm cases. However, the result was not significant.
