한국영화산업에 있어서 지식기반자원이 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 연구

Based on the resource-based view of the firm, this study empirically examined the effect of knowledge-based resources on performance. The Korean film industry during 1981-2000 was chosen for the purpose of empirical examination because knowledge-based resources are critical in the film industry. This study operationally defined knowledge-based resources of film industry as producers, directors, screenwriters, and actors. And it was hypothesized that the superiority of those knowledge-based resources was associated with superior performance. Empirical results showed that both the artistic and business superiority of knowledge-based resources were indeed associated with superior performance in Korean film industry. However, it was also found that for the case of producers who played commercial roles in film making, only the business superiority was associated with better performance; and reversely for the cases of directors and actors who played artistic roles, only the artistic superiority was associated with better performance. These results suggest that the balance between artistic value and business value is important in cultural industries.
