A Comparative Analysis of the 6th · 7th High School Social Studies Textbooks from the Viewpoint of Participatory Democracy - focusing on the meaning of political and law related education - Kim, Young In Sang-Gye High School The purpose of this paper is a comparative analysis of the sixth · seventh high school social studies textbooks from the viewpoint of participatory democracy and to examine the meaning of political and law related education. After contents of participation are examined from the viewpoint of participatory democracy, they are adopted as analytical framework. The objects of analysis are the sixth · seventh high school social studies textbooks and the methods of analysis are quantitative, qualitative. Frequencies of sentences in the text or subjects in the research activities, illustrations, reading materials are measured at the quantitative analysis. Analytical meanings of the text related to the participatory democracy are examined at the qualitative analysis. The results of the quantitative analysis show that the frequencies of text, research activities, illustrations related to participatory are increased in the seventh than sixth and most of the frequencies are concentrated on the political and law related spheres. The results of the qualitative analysis show that the contents related to participation are described from the viewpoint of participatory democracy than elitism, and participation in the civil society, civil movement is emphasized. But the results show insufficiency of participation in cyber space, participatory solidarity in the world, and practical programs for behavioral sphere of participatory citizenship. The results of analyses present importance of participatory democracy, participation in civil society, and necessity of learning of rights and participatory consciousness fit for the age of globalism, developing various participatory programs.
