플라스틱 의자 디자인의 시대적 경향에 관한 고찰

초록
인류 문명과 함께 발달되어온 가구는 인간의 삶과 매우 밀접하게 연결되어 있으며 그 시대의 문화와 생활양식을 반영하는 조형예술품이라 할 수 있다. 가구디자인의 변화와 발전에 핵심적 역할을 한 의자는 인체에 가장 밀접하게 닿는 생활도구로서 인류와 같이 공존해왔다. 2차 세계대전은 경제적, 사회적, 문화적으로 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 산업사회의 기술적 진보를 가져왔으며 산업발전과 함께 전반적인 분야에서는 물론이고 디자인에 있어 신소재 개발은 매우 중요한 부분으로 인식되기 시작했고 특히 플라스틱의 사용은 디자인분야에 커다란 영향을 주었으며 의자디자인에 있어서도 혁신적인 재료로 사용되어져 왔다. 20세기 이후 가구 산업분야는 목재 외에 플라스틱, 금속, 유리 등 새로운 재료를 사용하면서 여러 가지 기법 뿐 만 아니라 다양한 형태와 구조표현으로 발전하게 되며, 특히 의자는 2차대전 이후인 1945년부터 사회적, 경제적 기반과 기술적, 과학적 진보 등의 새로운 현상으로 인해 형성된 소비주의에 부응하는 디자인이 나타났으며 그 이전에 이루어진 발전보다 훨씬 더 급속한 발전을 이루고 있다. 이에 본고는 세계 2차대전 이후인 1945년부터 현재까지를 크게 3개의 시기, 즉 1945~1960, 1961~1980, 1980~현재로 나누어 분류하였으며 각 시대의 정치, 경제, 문화 상황과 함께 디자인 사적으로 중요 의미를 지니는 주요 플라스틱의자들을 제시하여 설명하였다.
Abstract
The furniture that has developed along with the human civilization is connected with the human life very closely and it is the forming arts that reflect culture and lifestyle of the time. Chairs that did played a great role changing and developing the furniture design existed with mankind as the life tools that touch the human body most closely. The World War II affected the world economically, socially, and culturally. It brought technical advance to the industrial society and the development of a new material started to be recognized as an important factor in design of the general field along with the industrial development. Especially, the use of plastic had a big influence on the design field and it was used as a revolutionary material in the chair design. After the 20th century, the furniture industry using new materials such as plastic, metal, and glass develops a variety of methods, shapes, and structure expressions. Especially with the chairs, a new design was created since 1945 after the World War II to deal with the consumerism that was formed by new phenomena such as social advance, economical and technical advance, and scientifical advance. There are developing faster than the previous development. So this study looked into plastic chairs from 1945 after the World War II to now. The periods were divided into three parts as 1945~1960, 1961~1980, 1980~now, and the representative plastic chairs having important meaning in chair design history were explained in point of plastic use with the social, political, and cultural contexts of the each period.
