Delivery of Leisure and Recreation Programs to Communtiy-Based Senior Citizen

Aging is an inevitable and life long process. Leisure and aging have been the subject of many myths and stereotypes because of the lack of understanding of what leisure is, how it is manifested during the life. The methods of this study have used a literature study and an analysis of precedent research. Future leisure program with the elderly should be expanded into the community as a result of development in home health care, adult daycare, and retirement community for the frail senior citizens. Leisure programs in home health care should be upgraded to an essential service because of the assistance that leisure services can provide in helping to maintain and enhance physical and mental health through overcoming social isolation and maintaining community integration. Future adult daycare should be expanding to include more educational and creative leisure programming and 24-hour service delivery systems to allow families respite and leisure opportunities.
