Based upon social exchange theory and norm of reciprocity, this paper thus explores empirically the effect of contingent hotel workers on job attitudes (psychological contracts, affective commitment) and discretionary service behavior under the IMF crisis in Korea. To examine hypotheses, we collected 414 questionnaires from workers of five luxury hotels in Busan. Korea. Hierarchical regression analysis was employed as an analytical tool. Contrary to expectations, the results show that contingent and regular workers have no significant differences on psychological contracts, affective commitment, and discretionary service behavior. In addition, work status has no moderating effects between job attitudes and discretionary service behavior. We discuss the implications of these unexpected results for theory and practice. Further research suggestions and limitations of this study are mentioned.
