본 논문은 다양한 서비스를 제공하는 인터넷 포탈 사이트들의 가격 및 서비스 품질 전략에 관한 연구이다. 전자시장(Electronic Market)의 성장과 함께 기업간 경쟁이 치열해지고 있다는 주장들이 자주 제기되고 있다. 이는 e-비즈니스 관련회사들의 낮은 생산비용(Production Costs)과 사용자(소비자)들의 낮은 탐색(Search) 및 전환(Switch)비용에서 기인한다. 따라서 많은 회사들이 신규 진입자들에 대한 진입장벽을 설치하고 그들의 시장 지배력을 유지하기 위한 전략을 세밀히 입안하고 시행하고 있다. 특히, 가격전략과 관련하여 이들 회사들이 취할 수 있는 전략들로는 가격 차별화(Price Discrimi- nation), 버전 구성(Versioning), 상품/서비스의 집성(Aggregation), 그리고 네트워크 외부성(Network Externality)의 활용을 위한 재화 및 서비스의 무료 제공 등이 있다. 본 연구자들은 무료가격전략과 네트워크 효과를 포함하는 수학적 경제모형을 구성하고, 이의 분석을 통해 포탈 사이트들의 이익을 극대화할 수 있는 최적 가격/서비스 전략을 도출하고, 네트워크 효과의 크기를 규명하였으며, 분석 결과 도출된 수식들을 통하여 최적전략 방향을 제시하였다.
Abstract
In this paper, we introduce a mathematical model to analyze pricing and service quality strategies for portal sites providing various services to customers. It is frequently claimed that the growth of electronic market has created a more competitive environment. It is caused by lower production costs of e-business companies, search and switching costs of customers. So many companies have tried to map out their strategies to build entrance barriers against new entrants and to preserve their market leadership positions. Price discrimination, versioning, aggregation of goods or services and the provision of free goods or services to use the network externality are their considerable strategies especially related with pricing. We tried to include the free pricing strategies and network effects among the mathematical model. And we tried to find the profit maximizing strategies for portal sites. Optimal pricing policy for the portal sites and the terms related with the network externality are derived and insights are demonstrated through numerical explorations.
