Tranining and Development System for Knowledge Management

This study examined the tranining and development system for knowledge workers. For this purpose, key competencies of knowledge workers were identified from the literature; these include (1) learning from information, (2) improving thinking and (3) social competencies(Tissen, Andriessen and Deprez, 1998). To develop these competencies and/or attitudes, traditional training and development system should be changed to incorporate more dynamic and flexible components in the learning process. Recent developments in the training and development indicated the significant shift in this direction which emphasized more informal process in learning such as coaching, mentoring and commuity of practices. Implications and future directions of such developments were discussed.
