글로벌통합과 기업성과: 글로벌제조산업의 경우

This study examined how multinational businesses operating in global industries should coordinate and control distinctive manufacturing competence across countries in order to improve their economic performance. In doing so, the study addressed the following two specific questions: 1) Which integrating modes are effective in coordinating and controlling geographically dispersed manufacturing competence? 2) Does effective global integration of manufacturing competence have a positive impact on economic performance? For an empirical investigation of these questions, the study relied on U.S. multinational businesses operating in global industries and collected data through questionnaires. According to our results, multinational businesses utilized all three integrating modes of socialization, formalization, and centralization and found them all effective. Results further revealed that there existed the ideal (usage) pattern of integrating modes for effective global coordination and control of manufacturing competence, and that, more notably, multinational businesses which utilized integrating modes at the levels closer to the ideal (usage) pattern of integrating modes tend to perform better in terms of sales growth and return on investment than those which did not do so. The study discussed various theoretical and practical implications.
