A Study on the Non-Financial Drivers Influencing the Performance of Small and Medium Firms in Automobile Parts Industry

본 연구는 국내 자동차 부품산업의 중소기업을 대상으로 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 주요 비재무적 동인이 무엇이며, 그 동인 간에 어떠한 구조적 관계가 있는지를 규명함으로써 비재무적 동인의 활용가능성을 입증하고, 궁극적으로는 중소기업의 경영자나 관리자들의 경영관리 능력을 향상시켜 경쟁력 제고에 이바지하는 데 목적이 있다. 먼저 경영활동의 흐름을 정의하고, 균형성과표(BSC)에서 제시한 각 수준별 성과와 비재무적 동인간의 구조적 관계에 대하여 가설을 설정한 후 설문조사와 재무자료를 통하여 요인분석 및 경로분석을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째는 종업원 만족 변수는 내부 프로세스 효율성에 직접적으로 영향을 미친다. 둘째는 내부 프로세스 효율성은 경영성과에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지만, 종업원 만족은 경영성과에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 각 수준별 성과와 동인간의 관계를 보면, 먼저 수준 1인 종업원 만족의 측정변수인 의사소통 및 성과보상은 수준 2인 업무개선 활동 및 자동화 시스템 활용에 직접적으로 영향을 미치나, 수준 3인 경영성과에는 직접적으로 영향을 미치지 않는다. 다만 성과보상은 수준 2의 내부 프로세스를 통하여 간접적으로 수준 3인 경영성과에 영향을 미친다는 것이다. 따라서 현재 여러 가지 어려움에 처해있는 자동차 부품업계의 중소기업들이 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해서는 여기서 제시된 경영성과와 비재무적 동인 간의 구조적 관계를 잘 이해하고 활용한다면 향후 경쟁력 제고에 크게 도움이 될 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to make a contribution to the long-term competitiveness of managers, especially those employed in small and medium firms in the automobile parts industry, by analyzing key non-financial drivers that affect business performance, and by examining hierarchical relations between performance measures and their drivers.To achieve the purpose, the paper defines the concept of business process first, and then formulates a hypothesis for the relations between performance measures and their drivers. To test the hypothesis, factor analysis, regression analysis, and path analysis are employed. As a result, statistically significant outcomes are obtained and can be summarized as follows.An employee satisfaction variable directly influences the internal process efficiency, which, in turn, makes a direct impact on the performance of a firm. However, the employee satisfaction variable does not have a direct effect on the performance of a firm. * Professor, College of Economics & Business Administration, Hanyang University.
