최근, 웹 2.0이 인터넷 비즈니스에서 화두가 되고 있다. IT 기업들은 변화하는 웹 환경에 적응하기 위해 기술적 해결책을 모색하고 있으며, 서비스의 변화를 추구하고 있다. 웹 2.0을 대표하는 핵심 가치인 참여, 공유, 개방을 담고 있는 UCC(User Created Contents) 기반 서비스가 그 변화의 핵심 서비스로 주목 받게 됨에 따라 IT 기업들은 UCC 기반 서비스 및 컨텐츠 확보에 열을 올리고 있다. 본 연구는 IT 기업들의 효과적인 UCC 서비스 및 컨텐츠 확보 전략에 있어서 M&A 및 전략적 제휴를 매우 효과적인 대안으로 제시하고 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위하여, 본 논문은 국내외 주요 IT 기업들의 다양한 사례들을 바탕으로 분석함으로써 M&A 및 전략적 제휴를 통한 UCC 서비스 확보 방안의 효율성을 분석하였다. 이 분석에 있어 본 논문은 망외부성 효과의 성패 여부를 설명함에 있어 중요한 이론적 배경으로 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 경제이론을 바탕으로 한 분석의 틀을 제시함으로써 UCC 기반 서비스 확보에 있어서의 실무적 시사점과 관리적 통찰력을 IT 기업들에게 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
Recently, Web 2.0 has been a red hot topic in e-Business. IT companies are trying to find technological solutions to change their services in order to quickly respond to the rapidly changing web environment. In particular, IT companies are desper-ately seeking ways to acquire UCC based services that are now at the core of Web 2.0 which characteristics include participa-tion, distribution, and open distinguished from the current web environment of Web 1.0. In this study, we discuss M&A and strategic alliances as two effective ways to acquire UCC based services and their contents. We qualitatively analyze several cases of M&A and strategic alliances that major Korean and foreign IT companies have experienced during UCC acquisition. We suggest network externalities theory as a theoretical background to explain the success and failure of M&A and strategic alliances. From this study, we expect to provide practical implications and managerial insights to IT companies on M&A and strategic alliances for UCC acquisition supported by an economic theory.
