재벌 내 글로벌 학습과 그룹계열사의 자회사 성과
Global Learning in Chaebol and Subsidiary Performance of Group-Affiliated Companies

본 연구는 우리나라 51개 재벌 그룹 내 172개 계열사의 본사와 600개의 해외 판매 자회사 및 1,057개의 생산 자회사를 대상으로 글로벌 조직학습이론(global organizational learning theory)을 이용하여 기업집단 수준에서의 글로벌 연결학습(globally linked learning)과 지역적 연결․기반학습(locally linked and leveraged learning)을 분석하였다. 본 연구결과에 의하면 판매 자회사 혹은 생산 자회사의 경우에 글로벌 연결학습과 지역기반학습의 상대적 중요성에 차이가 발생한다는 것이다. 판매 자회사의 성과에 있어 다국적 그룹계열사들 사이의 지역기반학습이 글로벌 연결학습 보다 더 중요하다는 사실이다. 하지만 생산 자회사의 성과를 위해서는 반대로 글로벌 연결학습이 더 중요하다는 것을 발견하였다. 또한 판매 및 생산 자회사의 성과 모두에게 있어, 재벌 그룹 내 글로벌 연결학습과 지역적 연결․기반학습의 시너지 효과가 매우 중요하다는 점이다.
Abstract
This study explores globally linked learning and locally linked and leveraged learning within the chaebol based on global organizational learning theory in a way of understanding a business group-level knowledge sharing phenomenon. Our sample consists 172 group-affiliated companies, who are in 51 chaebols, and their 600 foreign sales and 1,057 manufacturing subsidiaries. Our findings suggest that there is a relatively influential difference between globally linked and locally leveraged learning whether if it is the case of foreign sales subsidiaries or if it is the case of foreign manufacturing subsidiaries. In sum, locally linked and leveraged learning among peer group-affiliated companies is more important for the performance of sales subsidiary than globally linked learning. Yet, for the performance of overseas manufacturing subsidiary, globally linked learning is more influential than locally leveraged learning among peer group-affiliated companies. In addition, for both foreign sales and manufacturing subsidiary performance, a synergistic effect between globally linked and locally linked and leveraged learning within a chaebol is found to be important too.
