탈(脫)신체적 패션 디자인에 관한 고찰

초록
본 연구의 목적은 복식의 형태 분석을 위해 ‘몸’이라는 해석기준을 선택하여 복식에 표현된 탈신체적 디자인의 조형적 특징과 미적가치를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해, 단순히 아방가르드나 오트 쿠튀르 패션으로 다루어지고 있는 탈신체적 디자인의 특징을 규명하는 새로운 시각의 틀을 제시하고자 하였다.포스트모더니즘 패션은 전통적인 복식의 기능에서 떠나 몸으로부터 추상화 된 형태로 나타나고 있다. 허리를 중심으로 하는 복식형태를 이끌던 코르셋으로부터 해방되었을 때, 복식과 몸과의 관계는 새로운 국면으로 접어들었다. 소재와 의복구성법의 발전과 예술적인 발상과의 호흡에 힘입어 조형의 가능성이 확대됨에 따라, 기존의 복식 형태와 착용방식을 부정하는 새로운 의미의 표현과 전달방식이 등장하였는데, 그 중 두드러진 현상으로 인체와 유리되어 고정된 공간을 형성하는 복식에서의 탈신체화 경향을 반영하는 디자인을 들 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 탈신체화를 몸의 형태를 변형하는 것에서 나아가 형태를 넘어서기를 시도하는 단계로 분석하였다. 몸의 형태와 아무런 관계를 갖지 않는 조형물로써 몸의 부재를 상징하는 탈신체적 복식은 몸의 어떠한 사실성과도 무관한 이미지라고 할 수 있다. 탈신체적 디자인의 조형성은 사물을 연상케 하는 방식으로 은유적으로 표현되거나, 실재하는 어떠한 형상과도 연관을 갖지 않는 추상적인 공간성을 나타낸다. 탈신체적 디자인에서 복식은 표현의 장으로 간주되어, 인체의 비례와 구조보다는 디자이너의 조형의지가 중시되는데, 몸이라는 제한된 공간을 초월하여 주변의 3차원적 공간을 표현의 대상으로 하는 초공간성을 추구한다고 볼 수 있다. 결국 복식 부분별 몸 부위의 적합성을 해체하는 양상을 띠면서, 복식의 각 부위가 비분절적으로 연결된다. 따라서, 인체 부위별 기능과 형태가 무시되어 복식의 기능 및 복식을 착용한 신체의 기능이 박탈되면서, 전통적인 서구복식의 기표와 기의는 불일치하는 결과를 낳게 된다.몸에 대한 장식은 언어와 같이 인간의 특징을 정의하는 요소이므로, 복식으로 장식되고 미화되는 가운데 몸은 문화에 의해 형상화되고 의미가 부여된다. 인간은 복식을 통해 끊임없이 몸의 부분을 드러내고 감추는 새로운 방식을 찾아서 몸을 가시화한다. 이러한 방식으로 복식은 몸을 보는 시각을 드러내며, 몸이 새로운 미학의 영역으로 진입하는 방식에 대한 통찰력을 제시한다.
Abstract
Clothes and human body are inseparably related. Aesthetic consciousness of the body determines the form of clothing, reflecting the time and culture as well as the individual and society. Clothes can even reorganize the meaning of the body, while transcending their instrumental functions of protecting, expanding and deforming the body.Using 'body' to analyze the clothing form, my study develops a framework by which to classify transfiguration in fashion design. In order to inquire the formative style and aesthetic values expressed in transfiguration in fashion, my study examines subjects from the discourse on the body to the fashion collections of the late 20th and 21st century. The results of the study are as follows.Transfiguration signifies absence of body which questions the three dimensional construction of the body in more conventional clothing system. Transfiguration is expressed in non-figural forms which implies metaphorical plasticity and abstract extensity. Transfiguration in fashion stresses a will-to-form rather than mere bodily proportion and structure, which explores trans-extensity that goes beyond the boundary of the body. Ultimately, this phase also betrays the correspondence between signifiant and signifi in sartorial convention.Aesthetic ideal of the body is visualized in the form of a dress. Some clothes prioritize the body, particularly the feminine bodily curves, while others focus on the clothing itself as abstract and sculptural forms. Fashion continues to explore forms and images that transcend the traditional representations of the clothed body. As a type of intimate architecture, fashion always mediates the dialogue between clothes and body, or fashion and figure. My study suggests a framework to analyze bodily representation in transfiguration in fashion, focusing on the relationship between the clothes and body.
