지분법손익의 지속성 및 정보효과에 관한 연구

초록
본 연구는 지분법회계가 도입된 1999년 이후 지분법회계정보가 주식시장에서는 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 대한 실증분석을 수행하였다. 국내기업의 지분법적용투자주식의 비중이 커지면서, 지분법손익이 지배회사손익에 미치는 영향이 증가되고 있다. 이에 따라 투자자들이 지분법손익에 대해 어떠한 반응을 보이고 있는지 실증적으로 분석하였다. 또한 지분법손익과 지배회사손익에 대한 투자자들의 차별적인 반응의 원인이 지분법손익과 지배회사손익의 지속성의 차이에 있는지 여부를 검증하였다. 검증결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지분법손익과 지배회사손익의 정보효과에 대해 이익반응계수를 통해 비교한 결과, 지배회사손익과 지분법손익 모두 정보효과가 있는 것으로 검증되었으며 지배회사손익의 증분설명력이 지분법손익의 증분설명력보다 크게 나타났다. 둘째, 이익반응계수의 결정요인 중 하나라고 할 수 있는 이익의 지속성에 대해 검증한 결과, 지배회사손익의 지속성이 지분법손익의 지속성보다 높게 나타났다.셋째, 당기순이익이 감소한 경우, 지배회사손익과 지분법손익의 증감방향이 다른 경우에는 두 손익 모두 감소한 경우에만 정보효과가 나타나 주식시장에서 지배회사손익이나 지분법손익 중 적어도 한 가지가 감소한 경우 주가가 하락하는 보수적인 현상이 발견되었다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the extent to which the equity method affects security prices. Given the growing weight of the investment securities, the relative size of gain or loss from subsidiary companies compared to earnings of parent company is increasing. This paper investigates whether investors respond to the gain or loss from subsidiary companies differently from earnings of parent company. This paper also examines the difference in persistence between gain or loss from subsidiary companies and earnings of holding company. The results are as follows. First, both gain or loss from subsidiary companies and earnings of holding company have information contents, while the latter have bigger information content than the former. Second, in terms of the persistence, earnings of holding company are higher than gain or loss from subsidiary companies. Third, when the directions of two earnings changes differ, only those earnings decreased have information content, which implies that security market reacts to bad news more significantly.
