특허권 취득공시와 주식시장 반응

본 연구는 연구개발 활동의 결과로서 기업의 독자적 기술력을 나타내는 특허권을 기업이 취득하였을 경우 주식시장에서의 반응을 분석하였고, 이러한 반응이 기업특성, 특히, 기업의 연구개발 활동과 관련성이 있는가를 분석하였다. 이를 위해, 1999년부터 2005년도까지 금융감독원 전자공시시스템(DART시스템)에서 특허취득을 공시한 유가증권시장 상장기업과 코스닥시장 상장기업을 표본으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 코스닥시장 상장기업의 특허취득공시는 유의한 양(+)의 정보효과를 갖는 반면에, 유가증권시장 상장기업의 특허취득공시는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 또한 코스닥시장 상장기업의 특허취득공시에 대한 시장반응(종속변수)과 기업특성변수(독립변수)를 회귀 분석한 결과, 통제변수들과 연구개발투자변수 모두 유의하지 않았다. 이는 유가증권시장 상장기업의 특허공시는 주식시장에서 정보로서의 가치를 인정받지 못하고 있으며, 코스닥시장 상장기업의 특허취득공시는 주식시장에서 호재로 인정받고 있으나, 코스닥시장 상장기업의 연구개발 활동에 대한 시장의 반응이라기보다는 기업의 주가부양용 공시전략에 대한 시장의 기계적 반응이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the effect of patent application and public announcement of patent right on the stock price. Empirical analysis has been performed for non-banking firms listed over Korean Stock Exchange and KOSDAQ during 1999-2005 First, as to public announcement of a patent registration which is an achievement of an enterprise's research activity, it can be analyzed that a public announcement of a patent application or a patent application has positive influence on the enterprise value in Korean capital market. Second, it is analyzed that the patent application as a result of corporate R&D has positive effect on the corporate value(but not significant). The contribution of this study over the previous studies can be summarized as follows: First, this study investigated the meaning of a public announcement of a patent registration in KSE and KOSDAQ capital market.
